We are a Training Practice so each year we have at least one GP Registrar. These are fully qualified doctors gaining experience of general practice.
We also have 4th and 5th year medical students and occasionally 1st & 2nd year students.
If you agree to be seen by a student, there will always be a fully qualified Doctor in the room at the same time.
You have the right to request that the student leaves the room. It is important that students are able to see real patients as part of their training and education.
Our practice nurses are available for routine health checks, vaccinations, cervical smears, routine blood tests, dressings, ear syringing, and can give advice on travel precautions etc.
They are highly qualified nurses who will sometimes be asked to triage a patient call to assess severity.
They also have special training in treating patients with asthma & diabetes.
We also have Healthcare Assistants who carry out routine procedures such as taking blood, blood pressure and height & weight measurement.
They are also fully trained to administer flu vaccines.
If the doctor asks you to come for a blood test, this can be Monday to Thursday morning or up to noon on Friday to ensure the samples get to the lab for testing.
The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.
She is the person you should contact in the first instance if you have any compliments or complaints.
Receptionists provide an important link between patients and the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.
The Receptionists are trained to make further enquiries if you ask for an emergency appointment.
They have no clinical knowledge so will not be able to give results and information unless instructed by a Doctor or Nurse.
They are bound by strict rules of confidentiality and are only able to discuss patient appointments, test results, medical history etc with the actual patient, unless given specific consent to discuss these with a family member or friend.
The District Nurses visit patients who are confined to their homes. They provide care and advice and also perform blood tests, ear syringing, dressings etc.

A Health Visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families of children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.
